Who was OSAMA BIN LADEN ?

Family             : Father was millionaire (Construction magnate)- Mohamed bin Laden
                          Five wives, around 23 children.
Education        : Some reports suggest he earned a degree in civil engineering in 1979
Major works   : Formed Al-qaeda, one of the largest terrorist organizations responsible for 9/11 attack.

Died                : May 2, 2011.


How Osama turned into a terrorist And Why Al-Qaeda was formed ?

• After leaving college in 1979, bin Laden arrived to Pakistan.He then joined Abdullah Azzam to take part in the Soviet war in Afghanistan.
• By 1984, Osama and Azzam together established Maktab al-Khidamat, an organization used to collect money, arms and fighters from all over the Arab world for Afghanistan.Osama had a family fortune through which he was able to arrange huge money for air tickets,accomodation and all.
  

• By 1988, Osama had split from Maktab al-Khidamat.Reason behind this split was Azzam's insistence that Arab fighters be integrated with the Afghan fighting groups instead of forming a separate fighting force.osama wanted a separate force because he wanted to make his religion victorious.
• Some hints discovered meeting of Osama and others occured on August 20, 1988, indicate that al-Qaeda was formed by that time and had become a formal organization(an islamic organization) and its goal was to lift the word of God.
• Following the Soviet Union's withdrawal from Afghanistan in February 1989, Osama bin Laden returned to Saudi Arabia in 1990 as a hero of jihad, who along with his Arab legion "had brought down the mighty superpower" of the Soviet Union.

     Gulf war

• Saudi Arabia and US shared good relations with each other since 1933.
•  Invasion of Kuwait by Iraq( under Saddam Hussein on May2,1990) marked the beginning of gulf war.Reason behind this invasion was that Saddam hussein ammased a huge debt because of Iran-Iraq war and so he targeted oil wealth of Kuwait.Iraq did also not have direct access to the Persian Gulf which would help in the export  and import of goods.

• As Saudi Arabia (homeland of Osama Bin Laden) was on border with Kuwait and risked its security,Saudi Arabia decided to invite US help(as US was its ally).
• But, Osama didnt liked it.He talked to saudi king 'FAHD' that he should not ask for help from US.Instead,he and his mujahideen would help.
• The main reason why osama didnt wanted US intervention was that he believed Saudi arabia as sacred soil because it houses two mosques,'Mecca and Medina' and US troops would profane that sacred soil.
•  The saudi King and saudi defence minister didnt listened to him and invited US troops.US sent troops to Saudi and now troops of Saudi and US formed US-Saudi army alliance to attack IRAQ to prevent from further invading.
• This whole operation was called DESERT STORM.During the Desert Storm  Operation, Iraqi troops were defeated easily within four days causing the Iraqis to get back to Iraq.
• This angered OSAMA and he started targeting West for various attacks.Saudi Arabia banished him as he started speaking against saudi for inviting Us troops.He,then went to live in exile in Sudan during 1992.
• Al-qaeda planned various attacks on the west.Varios plots were discovered by FBI which clearly indiacte that so many plans were made.Finally, they attacked US on September 11,2001, which is still known to be worst terrorist attack in the history.
• Initially, osama denied to be involved in these attacks but finally after 3yrs, in 2004 he admitted to be responsible for the attack.The attack included hijacking 4 commercial planes,and then attacking World trade center,and pentagon through these planes.Around 3000 innocent people were killed.Thousands were injured.

Mr.barack Obama ,in his second presidential debate on  October 7,2008 pledged "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al-Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority." Upon being elected,Obama expressed his plans to "renew U.S. commitment to finding al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, according to his national security advisers" .

Finally,In April 2011, President Obama ordered a covert operation to kill or capture bin Laden. On May 2, 2011, U.S. Navy SEALs carried it out, and Osama was killed in his Abbottabad, Pakistan compound.One of his wives,Amal al-Sadah was killed during this operation.


Now burying his body was other matter of concern as his grave could become a center of contention.It was difficult to find a country to accept the dead body of world's most wanted terrorist. So, United states decided to bury him at sea.

His other wives have been captured during US raid and are being interrogated of Osama's life.
