Montblanc International, on September 29, launched a set of high-end pens priced atRs 1.5 lakh to Rs.14 lakh each under its limited-edition series called the “Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition 241” and “Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition 3000” luxury pens in the country.
The 241 pens in the series were made to signify the “241 miles” travelled by Gandhiji during the Dandi March.
Against :
- The Father of the Nation was considered the epitome of simplicity and making him the symbol of a pen that cost Rs.14 lakh is nothing but an attempt to degrade everything he stood for, and to mock a nation of middle-class and below-the-poverty-line persons who look up to him and whom he tried to liberate.
- He is remebered for his identification with the poorest sections.
- The launch of pen priced in lakhs in the memory of a leader who gave up his majestic western outfit costume for a single size dhoti after seeing the plight of the poorest is ironical.
- Had Mount Blanc been serious about spreading Gandhiji's ideas ,it would have introduced an unlimited edition of Mahatama pens priced at Rs.5 to empower the poor he identified with, encased in a khadi pouch made by village artisans.
Favour :
- While there is nothing condemnable in the move as such ,it would be appropriate for Mount Blanc if it could launch pens affordable for poor sections of society.
- Whatever the business interests, we should take pride in the fact that an internationally reputed company has placed such a high value on Brand mahatma. This is indeed a fitting tribute to the great leader.
- Why fret over something that shows the admiration of an internationally acclaimed pen manufacturer for our leader ? We have long forgotten the values preached by Gandhi ji.He taught us Non-violence but do we follow him ?
- Our all govt offices sport potraits of the leader but are hotbeds of corruption.
- Gandhiji's statues in several cities gathering dust and nobody cares.
